The Women of Man Up! Inc. or WoM, are putting their networks to the test by calling on women across East Brooklyn to help with their 1st Annual BAG LADIES initiative.  The initiative, which is an acronym for Beautiful, Amazing, Graceful, Loving, Admirable, Determined, Impeccable, Educated Sisters; was created to support women living in temporary housing facilities within the East New York and Brownsville communities.

BAG LADIES is a way to encourage and support women who are working or on the path back into the workforce.  Donations of new or very gently used handbags and purses are donated filled with essential toiletries and grooming tools that all working women need as they embark on their day-to-day activities.  The Women of Man Up! Inc., most of whom have been members of the organization for years, know first hand how important it is to be supported and prepared to get back into the workforce; so this is a great way to give back.  In addition to the BAG LADIES initiative, Man Up! Inc. offers free weekly workforce development classes called Ready 4 Work, where participants spend 2 hours a day for one week doing resume building, mock interviews, online applications and much more.

“Yes, the BAG LADIES initiative is being launched in March in honor of Women’s History Month, but as women we know that our support of and absolute dedication to one another’s success is necessary all year long”, explained Melinda Perkins, a volunteer mentor of Women of Man Up! Inc. and the Executive Director of East New York Restoration LDC.  “Support this great initiative if you can, and be sure to learn about one of our great women in history during Women’s History Month.” You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas. Shirley Chisholm.
