Housing Works Thrift

Sponsored by Housing Works.

Housing Works originated in 1990 as a community organization dedicated to helping homeless New Yorkers suffering from HIV/AIDS. Today, Housing Works is still going strong, advocating for those who are marginalized, including the homeless and people affected by HIV/AIDS and drug abuse, while creating an array of services available to the New York community. 90% of Housing Works’ revenue comes from their own personal businesses and services. Of those businesses, one that really stands out is the Housing Works Thrift Shops.

Housing Works established their first thrift shop in 1995 as a way to fund their services for people living with HIV/AIDS. The idea was simple, to sell high-quality donationed merchandise and use 100% of the profits to fund their public health services. With designer and high-end goods sold at bargain-prices, every donation and purchase gives to a greater cause. Today, Housing Works Thrift Stores can be found throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn, and have become an intrinsic part of the New York community.

How To Help

Housing Works Thrift Shops thrive off of donations, and anyone can donate. Donations of clothing, artwork, footwear, books and jewelry can all be brought directly into any of their thrift shops. For bigger donations, such as furniture, Housing Works will make pickups, free of charge.

With all of the proceeds going back to the community, shopping at Housing Works Thrift Stores is a great way to show your support for the community. Each store carries first-rate products, including handbags and clothing from designer names like Prada, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, and Kate Spade, to hand-carved furniture to original art pieces. Can’t make it to one of their stores? No problem, just shop online.
