Celebrating MLK Day Throughout East Brooklyn

When: Jan. 20, 1 p.m.
Where: Medgar Evers College – Founders Auditorium, 1650 Bedford Avenue

As the nation prepares to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Medgar Evers College and the Central Brooklyn Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission are collaborating to honor his life through the eyes of the children. The event will feature student performances, including artwork, dance ensembles, art, essays and more.  A tribute will be paid to the late Congressman Major Owens, founder of the King Commission, during the ceremony.

What: MLK Day of Service Event

When: Jan. 20, 9:30 a.m.

Where: PS 221, 791 Empire Boulevard between Troy and Schenectady

This event features a 5K starting in Crown Heights at noon and ending at Da Nonna Rosa Restaurant in Park Slope, organized by Run4Fun in Park Slope, a special winter farmers market and crafts fair at Public School 221 in Crown Heights plus fun healthy workshops for kids, like dance, soccer and relays, tutoring etc. Dozens of volunteers from around the city are coming to help.

What: I Have a Dream For My Child Forum

When: Jan. 20, 5:30 p.m.

Where: Thomas Jefferson H.S. Campus, 400 Pennsylvania Avenue

This is an emergency community forum that will address gun/gang violence in the communities of Crown Heights, Brownsville, East New York, East Flatbush, Bed-Stuyvesant and Canarsie.
